Finnish driver Jani Hjerppe secured two race wins during Round 2 of the Radical Middle East Cup 2017-18 at the Dubai Autodrome, after missing the opening round three weeks ago when he was racing in Barcelona to crown himself the Radical European Masters champion.

On his mission to defend his RMEC 2016-17 title, Hjerppe capitalized of the momentum in Qualifying 1 on Friday and putting on the fastest time around the 3.65km National Circuit configuration to claim pole position with a 1:24.658. The first row was completed by the duo of Eric Zimmermann from Germany and Richard Ardolino, about half a second off the polesitter. Newcomers Feyzulin & Kapl showed a stellar performance putting their Radical SR3RSX on P5. With B-Tuning from Russia, a new team made its first appearance in the championship, with Russian drivers Mikhail Stepanov and Konstantin Tatulov behind the wheel.

In the first 45-minute race the “Flying Finn”, put on a masterclass performance in his Radical SR3, trouncing the field and taking the race victory by 36.717 seconds over the AUH Motorsports duo of Richard Ardolino and Eric Zimmermann. Completing the podium was car #75 with American Mark Stoleson climbing the podium on only his third race, together with his co-drive Tarek Elgammal.

The second Qualifying session on Saturday saw a close fight between Hjerppe and Ollie Smith, with the better ending for British racer Smith, claiming Pole Position on the very last lap of the sessions with a near-perfect 1:23.630. Hjerppe would start the race next to Smith, only beaten by 0.076 seconds in Qualifying.

In the race however, Hjerppe managed to secure his second win of the weekend, despite his longer mandatory pitstop due to the victory on Friday, 40.532 seconds ahead of Romanian / Iranian duo Dragos Dumitrascu & Sam Taheri in the #25 Radical SR3RSX.

In the standings, Ardolino remains on top with a total of 62 points after four races. Hjerppe is now already sitting in second position with 40 points, closely followed by Zimmermann in third with 38 points.

Round 3 of the Radical Middle East Cup will be on 2nd & 3rd February 2018, back at Yas Marina Circuit!
