This week, Yas Marina Circuit will host the last round of the Radical Middle East Cup and will conclude the fight for the title between Jani Hjerppe and Sergey Shalunov. Since the start of the season the two racers have fought each other, keeping their focus on the title. Sergey is taking a two-point lead into the final weekend over his closest rival, but with double points up for grabs for race 11 and 12 of the 2016-17 season, the final outcome of the championship is guaranteed to be unpredictable. Behind them many drivers will fight for the third place in the championship standings, but will be trying to challenge the frontrunners one last time during the races.

A big fight is expected between the “Rocket“ Ollie Smith and the Kuwaiti driver Salem Al Nusif, who will miss his brother for this round, after his wife delivered a daughter just before the weekend, and will be replaced by Tarek El Gammal.

In the list of potential contenders for the top stop on the podium are also Romain Lutter and Paolo Necchi, both very quick and consistent. The Radical Middle East Cup welcomes John and Paul Woolfit from England, joining the series for the very first time. Russian racer Konstantin Gugkaev unfortunately had to cancel his trip to Abu Dhabi due to illness, but will return to racing next week during the opening round of the Radical UK Championship at Donington Park.

The season will officially conclude with the End of Season Awards Dinner on Friday, 14th April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Yas Island, crowing the champion of the 2016-17 season.
